FD & D
FD & D (Freight, Demurrage and Defence) is a separate class of cover, which provides assistance to P&I Club Members for the cost of legal representation and expert advice in relation to claims, disputes and other matters of a shipping nature which are not already covered by P&I and are not covered by another form of insurance.
A legal protection insurance which matches the special needs of the industry is available from specialized insurance providers and offers protection for shipowners when it comes to legal disputes in relation to their vessels. Some FD & D insurances are an annex to P&I cover, but there are also commercial insurers.
Our claims department can assist with a preliminary advice on the legal situation of your case. In case of need, we make contact to a specialized maritime lawyer in the relevant jurisdiction in order to protect your interests. When lawyer invoices come in, we take care of reimbursements from FD&D insurers.
